![]() ![]() It is ALWAYS safe to put the variable settings in autoexec.cfg.Ĭommands you pass in on the command line will be run right after startup.cfg is loaded, far before many variables have been registered. autoexec.cfg is loaded after everything has been initialized, so all the variables are sure to exist at this point. ![]() Here's a general rule for setting variables in Savage: svr_ variables are in the core engine, and usually it's fine to put them in startup.cfg sv_ variables are in the game code, and they should be put in autoexec.cfg in the game/ directory. You have about 30 chars that display in the client. To set the name of the server, you want to set the svr_name cvar to the name you want to appear. You can set the maximum number of clients by setting the svr_maxclients cvar either on the command line (like silverback.exe set svr_maxclients 16), or in a file called startup.cfg in your Savage directory (or in ~/.savage/ if you are running a Linux server). We run 48 player servers on a 1 GHz P3 easily though, and it uses around 50-80% cpu. CPU usage will be inconsistent, but it might spike high if people are doing a lot of shots against buildings (which does per-poly collision tests). The server will probably never use more than 90 megs of ram, it doesn't really grow much with players, so ram shouldn't be an issue on servers. Incoming bandwidth is usually around 1-4 kilobytes/sec per player. So a 32-player game will use up to about 500 kbytes / sec. If a player is using the DSL/LAN settings (most are), they will suck down between 8 and 15 kilobytes / sec. Savage servers take a fair amount of uploading bandwidth. In Linux, to run a dedicated server you run. To run a Windows dedicated server, just run dedicated_server.bat. 1.6 Administering Your Server Remotely:.Playing Elders Scrolls Online I've managed to get some nice combat with my sword going - ofc not really comparable, but at least bethesda know how to master a game and listen to its millions of clients.Īnd ofc nothing is better than counter strike for fps action - they've masterd the old point at head and click game I must say. Much like res although for different reasons, the games have been abandoned. Unfortunately the only developer left is a dolt and the obvious improvements like proper animation sync and basic graphics fundamentals will never be seen to. The game is too asymmetrical in regard to kill/death - beasts will die 3 or 4 times as much due to the nature of the game, plus the human only vets that ruin it. Much like the poster above will never play beast race and farm newbies with scores like 90/14 and never play for the team or for a fair game. This makes for a game that overall is just not fun unless you're a pro who's played for some years, new players get killed sometimes without a kill themselves and think why bother make myself food for the vets who can't give me a go. I think because vets have figured out how to use macros and block/switch items or weapon making use of the poor animation syncronization where some events only need 1 frame - like relocating. ![]() Part of the problem with Savage XR is that a lot of players only play human, which makes games harder to start and fair. Also do not consider this a review of each game I listed, but rather as me pointing these games out to you for you to check out. I have not provided links because I'm not sure if it counts as advertising or not. Natural Selection: A payed for game on steam that can be considered the setting of aliens meets the gameplay of savage. On steam, I'm not sure if it's dead or not. Nuclear Dawn: A scifi styled game that plays similar to savage. I believe the game is dying but you can still find people to play with. Both sides are pretty similar to each other, unlike in savage the main difference I notice is an cosmetic one. It's free and it plays pretty similar to savage with overhead commanders, research and classes. Worth checking out if you're a fan of the original C&C renegadeĮmpires Mod: A scifi post-apocalyspe styled source engine that is on steam. ![]() I believe renegade X doesn't have a commander, but there is still resource harvesting and classes. RenegadeX: A free remake of the original command and conquor Renegade. Also free to play, but I haven't played it. Savage 2: I believe this is the offical sequal to the original savage. Worth checking out if you like the original savage. I have not played it recently so I do not know if this game is still alive, but it's free and comes with its own launcher and mods. SavageXR: this is a free version of the original savage and probably one of the closest thing to this game currently. ![]()
